Yarn-Wrapped Autumn Wreath

Let me start off saying that I’m not that crafty of a person. I’m kind of at the beginner level. Honestly, my skill level is right there with most kindergartners. But I’m beginning to teach myself how to make all the pretty things I keep seeing all over Pinterest. (You know, those things that you pin and never look at again?)  My mom owned a craft shop when I was a little girl, so I have a lot to live up to!

I found countless tutorials for yarn-wrapped wreaths on Pinterest, and I'm obsessed with them. And they seem easy enough, so I decided to go for it!

Here are some of the tutorials that I found were the most helpful:

I’m not going to get quite into the details like those crafty ladies did, but I will go over how the process was for me a little bit.  Give yourself about 1 hour to complete this, and maybe give your wrist a break halfway through the yarn-wrapping.

SUPPLIES:
-Straw Wreath (important: keep plastic on)
-Mustard yellow/gold yarn
-Fall flowers & accents

Here is the straw wreath I bought for less than $4 at Wal-mart. I made sure to keep the plastic wrap on it so my yarn wouldn't get snagged. A foam wreath would also work, but I wanted something a little sturdier.

Now the fun part. Just kidding. Wrapping the yarn around the wreath is time-consuming but generally easy. At first I tried to perfect it, pulling the yarn tight and lining it up side-by-side, but soon I learned that imperfection with this project is a good thing.

I wrapped it all the way around and then did another quick layer to cover the spots of straw that were showing through. Then I cut the yarn and tied a knot at the end, in the back so it wouldn't show.  Originally I wanted to embellish the wreath with felt flowers and buttons, but I found some old fake Fall flowers to use instead.

And there's the finished project! These are SO easy; anyone can make one.
