Our trip to Holden Beach, NC

Considering this vacation was 4 months ago, I figured it was time to finally blog about it! I went to Holden Beach, North Carolina in October with Holden and my parents. (My husband is afraid of flying and didn't want to go. I know, right?) I was feeling overwhelmed with work and other personal things just before we left for this trip, and that beach was exactly what I needed to make the stress melt away. Ahhh. Holden loved it--I mean, it's "his" beach and all.

And it was absolutely beautiful. Holden Beach is actually a quaint little town, and the beach wasn't crowded at all. It was voted the best family beach--and I can see why! Everybody there was so friendly, from the waitresses to the shop keepers to the other families staying in the beach houses by ours. We rented the beach house through Hobbs Realty; if you ever go to Holden Beach, I highly recommend them.

Oh, and it goes without saying that next time you plan a vacation... don't go to all the crowded touristy places. You need to go to Holden Beach. And this is why...

Holden & I went down to the docks on the canal one night with the hopes that there would be a pretty sunset and I could snag some cool silhouette shots. The sky was so beautiful that night!

And we got up early for the sunrise the next morning:

We were incredibly lucky to witness baby sea turtles hatching and making their way to the ocean. During our week there, we got to know the Holden Beach Turtle Patrol pretty well--as you can see, one of them even held Holden so he could get a closer look!

We spent one afternoon at Fort Apache, an eclectic little place we had spotted on the way to the beach from the airport. It was basically a scrap yard/store with all kinds of collectors' items--some were famous items from movies and Broadway Musicals. The place and its owner, Dale, have been featured on American Pickers. My dad loved every minute of it!

We also spent the day at Alligator Adventure in Myrtle Beach--I didn't get a ton of pictures there but had to include at least one. Alligators were Holden's favorite animal at the time.

I can't wait to go back to Holden Beach. Neither can this guy:
